PAUSE

Parents Against Unnecessary Screen time in Education

PAUSE is a community-led, research grounded effort to partner with Steamboat Springs teachers and the School District in setting clear, evidence based limits on K-12 classroom screen time so every student has the teacher-led, hands-on experiences that research shows they need to thrive.

How the Community Feels

  • "My son is currently at HNPS, and will attend Steamboat Mountain School in the fall. A huge part of our decision to not attend public school was due to the amount of screen time in K-3. We were never really able to get a clear answer on “how much” screen time the students were having which was concerning as we felt like there was no system in monitoring. We were told “that is how they learn to read and solve math problems."

    — Steamboat Springs Parent

  • "The part that concerns me most about technology in my child’s school is how inconsistent it is from teacher to teacher. As a former first grade teacher, I know how much that can vary, and it makes it hard to understand what my child’s day actually looks like. I don’t really have a clear way to know how much screen time they’re getting throughout the day, which feels like a big gap."

    — Strawberry Park Elementary Parent

  • "I believe that it makes kids go off-topic and focus less when the teacher is actually teaching, they just want to be online."
